Xi'an Non-ferrous Metal and Metallurgy Design Institute (hereinafter referred as Design Institute) was formerly affiliated to China National Non-ferrous Metals Corporation (State Administration of Non-ferrous Metal Industry). It was established in  1971, it is a technology intensive, multi-level, comprehensive class A design and research organization. In Feb.2001, it became the subsidiary of Shaanxi Non-ferrous Metals Holding Group.
The Design Institute holds 4 class A qualification certificates for design, consultation in terms of metallurgy, construction, engineering consultation, construction cost and 4 class B qualification certificates for urban planning, construction supervision, penstock manifold and safety evaluation issued by Ministry of Construction and National Development and Reform Commission. It is able to undertake the feasibility study, preliminary design, construction drawing design and scientific and technological problems tackling, mechanical-electrical integration, automation technology research, project management, supervision and contracting for large and medium sized metallurgical and mining engineering and civil engineering and building construction both here and abroad, it is the sponsor for ?°Convention on Engineering Prospective Design Industry in Shaanxi Province?± and passed the ISO9001-2000 quality management system certification and ISO14000-2004 environmental management system certification and OHSAS18000 occupational health and safety management system certification.
 The Design Institute has 208 employees, including 190 specialized technical personnel and 84 persons with senior title of technical post; 46 persons with medium-grade professional title; 2 experts enjoying government subsidies; 91 chartered engineers. The Design Institute has 17 subsidiaries namely mining subsidiary, metallurgy subsidiary, architecture planning design No.1 division, No.2 division, No.3 division, No.4 division, No.5 division, building equipment division, construction cost division, information center, information data office, general engineer?ˉs office, trade union etc. its business scope: metallurgy, geology, mining, ore processing, mine tailings, sintering, iron making, steel making, steel rolling, gold smelting, Non-ferrous metal alumina, electrolytic aluminum, carbon steel smelting, coking, chemical product, industrial furnace, building material, machinery, building, structure, heating ventilating, power, dust elimination, automatic control, electric, water supply and drainage, sewage treatment, environmental protection, land reclaim, construction cost, budgeting, urban planning, supervision of construction etc. 
The Design Institute has undertaken engineering projects distributed over Guangdong, Hainan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong, Hebei, Jilin, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Sicuan, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Hainan, Shaanxi Provinces, and developed engineering projects in Korea, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mongolia abroad. It obtained more than 20 awards at national and provincial levels for excellent engineering design and technology and good economic benefit and social benefit for the past 40 years.
